Can I Use My Own Domain With Shopify?

3 mins

Shopify is a popular ecommerce platform that enables businesses to create and manage their own online stores. It offers users a customizable platform.

One question that often arises for business owners considering using Shopify is whether they can use their own domain with the platform.

Yes, in fact, connecting your domain is easy, and it’s a lot more convenient than having someone else manage all of those details for you.

You still use the third-party provider to keep track of when payments are due or how many domains have been registered from this account, but now they’re connected!

Can You Use an Already Own Domain on Shopify?

Yes, you can use a domain you already own on Shopify. You will need to set up DNS records with your domain registrar for your Shopify store.

Once your DNS records are set up, your domain will point to your Shopify store and you’ll be able to use it as your shop’s address.

Can You Use Any Domain on Shopify?

Yes, you can use any domain on Shopify. You can either use a domain that you already own, or you can purchase a new domain through Shopify

If you use a domain that you already own, you will need to change the DNS settings for your domain in order to point it to your Shopify store.

If you purchase a new domain through Shopify, we will automatically set the DNS settings for you.

How to Add Your Domain to Shopify?

Adding a domain to your Shopify store is a simple process that can be completed in just a few steps.

First, you need to purchase a domain from a domain registrar such as GoDaddy or Hover.

Once you have purchased your domain, you can add it to your Shopify store by following these steps:

Step-1: Log into your Shopify admin and go to Online Store > Domains.

Step-2: Click the Add Domain button.

Step-3: Enter the domain name that you purchased and click Save.

Step-4: Follow the prompts to set up DNS records with your domain registrar.

That’s it! Your new domain should now be working with your Shopify store!

Can I Use My Godaddy Domain on Shopify?

Yes, you can use your GoDaddy domain on Shopify

You will need to set up a custom domain in your Shopify account and then update the DNS settings for your domain with GoDaddy.

Once that is done, yourdomain.com will resolve to your Shopify store.

CAN I USE MY GODADDY DOMAIN ON SHOPIFY

Here’s how to do it:

First, it’s important to note that once a domain is transferred away from GoDaddy, it cannot be transferred back within 60 days.

Additionally, any email accounts associated with your current GoDaddy account will also be canceled when the transfer takes place.

Finally, if your domain is currently set up with private registration through Go Daddy, this setting will need to be removed prior to initiating the transfer (otherwise known as making your contact information public).

With all of that being said, let’s take a look at how to initiate a transfer request with both providers.

In order to begin the process of transferring your domain from GoDaddy over to Shopify, you’ll first need to obtain an authorization code from GoDaddy. This can be done by logging into your account and navigating to the “Domains” tab.

Then click on the “Domain Settings” link next to the domain name that you wish to transfer and scroll down until you see the “Authorization Code” field.

Copy this code and keep it handy as we’ll need it shortly. Now that we have our authorization code from GoDaddy.

Does Shopify Own My Domain Name?

There’s a common misconception that Shopify owns your domain name when you use their platform. This is not the case!

When you set up your Shopify store, you have the option to either buy a new domain name through Shopify or use an existing domain name that you own.

If you choose to buy a new domain name through Shopify, they will be the registrar of record and will manage all of the DNS settings for you.

However, this does not mean that they own your domain name – YOU are still the owner!

If you decide to use an existing domain name that you already own, then you will need to point the DNS settings for yourdomain.com to Shopify’s servers in order for your store to work properly.

Either way, YOU always maintain ownership of your domain name when using Shopify.

Wrap Up

You can use your domain with Shopify. You need to set up a redirect from your registrar to point to your Shopify store.

You will also need to set up an A record with your DNS provider and configure it for your shop’s IP address.

If you want to use a subdomain, you can create a CNAME record. Once you have done this, you can start using your domain with Shopify.
